Sunday Celebration Service

Nag Hammadi Series! Rev. Cherie will continue the Lenten Series this Sunday. It is based on the profound teachings found in Nag Hammadi, including the best-known “Gospel of Thomas”.The Nag Hammadi library (also known as the "Gnostic Gospels") is a collection of early Christian and Gnostic texts discovered near the Upper Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi in 1945.
“I Am the silence that is incomprehensible and the idea whose remembrance is frequent.
I am the voice whose sound is manifold and the word whose appearance is multiple.
I am the utterance of my name.” “Nag Hammadi Library
This week, Rev. Cherie will explore "Codex 4 - A Treatise on the Resurrection." .The main message of the treatise is that we should ourselves already resurrected in a spiritual sense. It affirms that the resurrection was real and that Jesus "lived as flesh" and was "both human and divine." Many of the Gnostic Gospels believed that Jesus was not flesh, but made of a celestial substance. The Valentinian author of this gospel believed that Jesus was made of flesh and had divinity within him. The text also says that Jesus "displayed himself as the Son of God."
The author writes, “This is the spiritual resurrection [or resurrection of the spirit], which swallows up the [resurrection of the] soul and [the resurrection of] the flesh.” So it was with Jesus, so it is with all of us.”
In other words, he believed that the resurrection is the transcending of the material world through the liberation of the spirit. Please join us as we pull back the layers on this Gospel.
